HORSE poker is a combination of 5 different variations of the noble game of poker. Texas HoldEm, Omaha hi/lo, RAZZ, Seven Card Stud and Eights or better (Seven Card Stud hi/lo) form HORSE poker together. Currently HORSE is seen as a true game of poker where skill and mathematical ability are more important than bluffing and reading people. At the World Series of Poker (WSOP) most people see the HORSE event as the true championship event. This is backed up y the fact that the last few years this tournament has been won by a poker professional and not by an online qualifier. Every game is played in a limit variation and is played for either a set amount of time (i.e. till the blinds increase if playing in a tournament) or a set amount of hands. This could be for a full round of the button or 10 hands for instance. Games will be played in order of the word HORSE and when the game switches from Omaha to RAZZ the button will not move so that players will not have to post extra blinds or miss out on posting blinds.

Texas HoldEm is the first game and it is played in the limit variation like all other games in HORSE. Omaha high low is next on the agenda where the winning pot is split between the high hand and the low hand. When the game changes to RAZZ a different game will be played where players need to make the lowest hand possible. The cards are not dealt like they are in Texas HoldEm or Omaha, but instead players will receive 2 cards face down after which a card is dealt face up. This continues until every player has 6 cards and then a 7th card will be dealt face down again. After the 3rd card dealt there are betting rounds after each card dealt and the winner is the person with the lowest hand.

When the game Switches to Seven Card Stud the same procedure as in RAZZ applies, but in RAZZ the person with the highest card shown on the 3rd card has to make the first forced bet and in Seven Card Stud this is the person with the lowest card shown. The biggest difference between RAZZ and Seven Card Stud is however that the pot will be won by the person with the highest hand.

In the last game, Eights or better, which is commonly known as Seven Card Stud hi/lo, the pot is divided between the winner(s) of the low hand and the high hand. As you can see there are 2 games involved where players can win more then one pot and these are the games where a lot of players loose a substantial amount of chips or money. They will call in Omaha for instance with a low hand and no high hand and find they split the low hand and loose the high one. This means they only take away 25% of the pot.
